Hello my name is Tracy.
I was born and raised in Maple Ridge and have spent most of my life in this community. I have worked as an Education Assistant since 2003, supporting students in both elementary and high school.
Much of my experience has been working with neurodiverse students and young people with a wide range of learning, behavioural, developmental and social needs.
I am also a mom of three grown children, which has given me another perspective on how young people grow, communicate, make decisions and find their place in the world.
One of the things I value most is building genuine relationships. I like to laugh, connect and create an environment where young people feel comfortable being themselves. I believe trust is often where meaningful support begins.
I have also seen how often young people can miss the nuances of a situation or the information that others seem to pick up almost by osmosis. Social expectations, consequences, tone, context and unspoken rules are not always obvious. Sometimes a young person simply needs someone to slow things down, talk it through and help them understand what is happening and why.
Because I have spent many years working within the school system, I understand how schools operate and how to communicate with teachers, counsellors and support teams. I can help youth and families advocate for what they need and navigate school supports more effectively.
My approach is practical, patient and individualized. I want young people to feel heard, understood and capable, while helping them build confidence, strengthen critical-thinking skills and become more independent in how they navigate everyday life.
